Tara McWhorter, Director
As director, Tara McWhorter provides office leadership and supervision, maintains external relations and partnerships, leads and tracks strategic planning efforts, oversees the budget, and advises the Parents Council. She has a BA in criminology from the Ohio State University and an MA in student personnel services from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Before coming to UT, she served as associate director of recruitment and coordinator of multicultural recruitment at Murray State University. Her background includes additional positions related to new student programs and fraternity and sorority life at Murray State, as well as positions at Northwestern State and Miami (Ohio) University.
Eddie Higginbotham IV, Associate Director
Eddie Higginbotham IV oversees major programming and supports the director in office operations and strategic planning. He manages orientation logistics, support of special populations, and scholarship and grant processes for the Parents and Families Fund. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and a master’s in higher education from Florida State University. Before coming to UT, he was assistant director for leadership and new student engagement at the University of Georgia. He has also worked at Florida State University.
Lindsey Snow, Coordinator
Lindsey Snow coordinates Fall Family Weekend and selects, trains, and supervises the orientation leader team. Originally from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, she has a BS in marketing from the University of Florida. She has an MS in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, where she also worked with career services and a leadership program and served on the advisory board for Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity before coming to Knoxville in May 2018.
James Kelly, Coordinator
James Kelly works with family programs, including the Parents Association and fall and spring Welcome Week programs, and manages the office’s communications.
A native of Georgia, he has a BBA in marketing from Georgia Southern University and an MS in college student personnel from UT. His background includes oversight of new student welcome and online orientation programs at the University of Colorado Boulder and orientation and student leadership programs at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Terri Williams, Accounting Specialist
Terri Williams is responsible for budgeting, accounting, and other administrative support needs. She has 20 years of service at UT and is working toward a BS in accounting.
Deb Branwell, Administrative Specialist
Deb Branwell supervises the student staff, handles accounts receivable and payable, manages stewardship for foundation accounts, and oversees office management. Her background includes psychology and business studies at Southeastern University and 10 years as a city manager.
Stephanie Hill, Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a second-year graduate teaching assistant, Stephanie Hill works primarily with social media and marketing, Parent Association efforts and events, fall and spring welcome events, and special student population programming. She has a BBA in management from East Tennessee State University and is completing her MS in college student personnel.
Megan Edwards, Graduate Teaching Assistant
First-year graduate teaching assistant Megan Edwards works with orientation, student leaders, and program planning. She has a BA from Sonoma State University and is working toward an MS in college student personnel with plans to graduate in 2020.
