Spring and Summer Entry Orientation
Orientation for first-year students entering in the spring semester or summer is a one-day program, held in January for students entering in spring and in June and July for students entering in summer. Parents and guests are welcome to attend and discover ways to support their student during their time at UT.
Orientation check-in begins at 7 a.m. Eastern in the Alumni Memorial Building.

Fall Entry Orientation
Orientation for first-year students entering in the fall is a two-day program and includes an overnight stay on campus. Parents and guests are welcome to attend and discover ways to support their student during their time at UT.
Check-in takes place at Fred Brown Hall from 7 to 8:45 a.m. Eastern on the first day. Most sessions are held in the Alumni Memorial Building, with some programs at other locations depending on your academic college. The first day concludes for students around 9:30 p.m., with optional programming ending at 10:45 p.m.
Following breakfast on the second day, students attend sessions in preparation for a final meeting with their academic advisor and course registration. Orientation ends at 5 p.m. with check-out in Hodges Library.
Housing & Accommodations
Overnight accommodations for students in Fred Brown Residence Hall are included in the orientation fee. Bring a pillow, blanket, washcloth, towel, full-size bed sheets, and toiletry items.
If you plan to arrive the day before your session begins, you will be responsible for the cost associated with staying the additional night. (See “Early Arrival” below.)
Parents & Guests
Parents and guests who have reserved overnight accommodations on campus should bring a pillow, blanket, washcloth, towel, bed sheets (full-size bed) and toiletry items. Student rooms are on a different floor, so pack separately.
Overnight accommodations for family members and guests are not included in the orientation program fee. See the dates and cost page for details.
Rooms in Fred Brown Residence Hall are available for students and guests who wish to arrive on campus the day before orientation. No advance arrangements are required, although guests must be signed up for on-campus accommodations during orientation. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. in the lobby.
The cost for students is $27. Guests pay the same rate as during orientation: $37.32 for a double room or $45 for a single. Payment with Visa, Mastercard, or personal check is due at check-in.
Honors & Scholars Students
Students who have accepted a space in an Honors and Scholars program—Chancellor’s Honors Program, Haslam Scholars Program, Honors Leadership Program, or 1794 Scholars—are encouraged to register for orientation sessions 31 (May 30–31), 32 (June 3–4), or 33 (June 5–6).
You must accept your place in the program before you can register for one of these sessions. If you have accepted your place and are still unable to register after a few days, call 865-974-4546 to confirm that you are listed as an Honors and Scholars student.
Spaces in all orientation sessions, including Honors and Scholars sessions, are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You are encouraged to register for orientation as early as possible.
