Lighting the Torch

Student Union 1st Floor

Join us as we light the brand-new torch sculpture on to officially open the Student Union! Bundle up and enjoy refreshments with friends at this fun kick-off event.

Welcome Wednesday
8 a.m.–noon
Tyson Alumni House
The UT Knoxville Alumni Program invites students to attend Welcome Wednesday on January 9, 2019, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tyson Alumni Center (1609 Melrose Avenue, next to Hodges Library).

UT students, come enjoy a variety of free delicious bagel flavors along with coffee, orange juice, and fruit to help you kick start your Wednesday morning. Relax in comfy chairs, watch Sports Center (or The Today Show), and enjoy the student atmosphere at Welcome Wednesday. You can also learn more about the student programs supported by the Alumni Program and how you can get involved.

Free bagels and coffee are made possible by the UT Knoxville Alumni Program.

Arts and Sciences Advising Services is offering drop-in advising appointments on a first come, first serve basis from January 8th – January 11th. Arts and Sciences advising will be happy to advise any of our majors or minors, University Exploratory students, Pre-Health, and Pre-Law students. We would be happy to do graduation checks for any A&S majors looking to graduate in May or August during this time.

Volunteers for Christ Soups & Skates

Meet at the VFC house to carpool over to the Ice Chalet ($10 admission). After skating for a couple hours, head back to the VFC house to enjoy soup! Ice skating costs $10.

Visit the new Student Union on Monday, January 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the Division of Student Life Winter Welcome Open House. Check out the new office suites in the Union while learning more about the programs and resources each department offers. Pick up food, giveaways, and resources at each office while you learn how you can get involved with the Division of Student Life.

Campus Event Board Presents Comedian and Writer Ben Schwartz

This event will feature a moderated Q&A with Ben Schwartz! Ben stars in the upcoming Netflix feature HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, written and directed by Jared Stern. He also recently wrapped THE UNTITLED DUPLASS/LYNN SHELTON PROJECT alongside Jay Duplass; AN ACTOR PREPARES alongside Jeremy Irons; and THE BLUE IGUANA opposite Sam Rockwell.

Recent feature credits include THE INTERVENTION written and directed by Clea DuVall; THE WALK directed by Robert Zemeckis and THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU directed by Shawn Levy.

Ben starred opposite Don Cheadle & Kristen Bell in the Showtime comedy series HOUSE OF LIES and starred alongside Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt and Aziz Ansari as the iconic Jean Ralphio on PARKS & RECREATION.

An Emmy-winning writer, Ben was named as one of Variety’s “2014 Ten Screenwriters to Watch” and has feature comedies in development at Paramount, Good Universe and Universal.

CEB Presents Rudy Francisco

Rudy Francisco combines activism and poetry to enlighten the minds of those who witness his performance. As the 2009 National Underground Poetry Slam Champion, 2010 San Diego and San Francisco Grand Slam Champion, and 2010 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, Rudy eloquently absorbs the experiences of those around him, synthesizes them, and converts their stories into poetry.


CEB Presents Vol Night Long: Swinterland

CEB Presents Nicole Stott
January 29, 2019

Nicole Stott is an astronaut, aquanaut, and artist who has dedicated her life to sharing her spaceflight experience and the beauty of Earth with others. Her experience includes two spaceflights and 104 days living and working in space on both the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station. She also lived and worked during an 18-day, and longest saturation mission to date, on the Aquarius undersea habitat.

Nicole writes a SciArt themed column called Space for Art for ROOM: The Space Journal, leads the space-themed art and healing Spacesuit Art Project, and, premiering in March 2018, will be featured in National Geographic’s One Strange Rock, a documentary series hosted by Will Smith.

VOLthon
March 9, 2019

Student Union Ballroom
VOLthon is the largest student-run philanthropy on campus. This group works year-round through various events and projects to raise money and awareness for the children and families at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. This year, all funds will benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at ETCH. VOLthon’s biggest event is Dance Marathon, an event involving food, bands, entertainment, games, and of course dancing! Join VOLthon, along with over 300 other Dance Marathon programs nationwide, in defying the odds and helping the families at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital!
